The Road to Worlds

[p]It’s every Duelist’s dream to one day become World Champion. While it’s no easy feat overcoming the best of the best in the exclusive World Championship, making it to Worlds in the first place is just as much of an accomplishment. Head inside to learn about the challenges you’ll have to master to earn your invite!

Basically, the road to Worlds is a 3 step process:
[/p][nbsp]

Step 1: Earning the Invite for the WCQ

[p]
This is the easiest step on the ladder since you can take multiple shots to earn your invite for the European Championship.
[/p]

  • WCQ: Regionals
    [p]
These events are run continuously throughout the year. That means right after the European Championship concluded, you’ll have a chance to qualify for next year’s World Championship Qualifier. Make use of those chances and collect some additional tournament experience by attending several Regionals, this will give you an additional edge in tournaments with tougher competition!
    [/p][p]
Additionally, the more players attend a Regionals, the more players will qualify for the WCQ. For each 8 participants, one player will earn an invite. Since we’re rounding up, 17 players would mean 3 invites for the European Championship!
    [/p]
  • WCQ: National Championships
    [p]
The National Championships mark another chance for you to earn your invite. Since all of the best Duelists from the respective country will want to claim this prestigious title, it will be a lot harder for you to sneak in at the top tables. To make up for this, one sixth of the field qualifies for the European Championship. So you will “only” have to reach the Top 60 in a National Championship with 240 participants.
    [/p][p]
Did I mention you can also win playmats, promo cards and some other cool prizes at the National Championship? Oh, and we’ll also try to put you in the spotlight on the weekend of the European Championship, so if these aren’t enough reasons to try your luck at Nationals, then I really don’t know…
    [/p][p]
From this year forward, these events also became a lot more important for all players aged 13 and younger. The National Dragon Duel Championships are one way to qualify for the European Dragon Duel Championships, so in case you’re still allowed in these events targeting our younger players, you should make to show up at the Nationals!
    [/p]
  • Top 4 of last year’s WCQ: European Championship
    [p]
This is our very special “2 for 1 deal”: If you do well in ONE European Championship, you will automatically have earned your invite for the following European Championship. If you really, really, really need a break from Dueling (we do not encourage this), this is our recommended solution as you can take a month or two off after the European Championship.
    [/p]
  • Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series
    [p]
There’s no faster way to glory than taking down a Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series. Better yet, you don’t even have to make it all the way to the top to earn an invite for the European Championship. All you need to do is reach the Top 32 of one of the YCS events and you’ll be eligible to participate in the World Championship Qualifier.
    [/p][p]
At every Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series, there’s also a Dragon Duel event taking place. These are another chance to get your invite for the European final which will in turn mark your only chance to win the flight and accommodation for the Dragon Duel World Championship! So whenever the YCS is stopping close to your hometown, make the trip – it’s totally worth it!

Step 2: World Championship Qualifiers

[nbsp][p]
This is the highlight of the year for hundreds or even thousands of Duelists! They all come together year for your to become a part of Yu-Gi-Oh! history and become one of the few players that were ever allowed to attend a World Championship.

Certainly, there are also quite a few attractive prizes that go along with the Worlds invite, but at the end of the day, participating in the most prestigious event is what it’s all about. I have yet to meet a player that attended Worlds and declined that he had the time of his life. Not only will you get to see an entirely different country, you’ll also be treated like a real champ, with a free flight that best fits your schedule as well as free hotel accommodation, all courtesy of Konami!

The World Championship

[nbsp][p]
This is it! The most prestigious tournament of the year! Who will succeed Takashi Ogawa and become this year’s most successful Duelist, taking down Worlds? It’s a question that every single player would like to answer with “I will!”, but first they’ll need to grab one of the few elusive spots for this event.
[/p][p]
After a stop in Europe last year (take another look at the official coverage), the event will be held in Yu-Gi-Oh!’s home country this year, coming to the vibrant city of Tokyo! It’s an event no Duelists should miss, so make sure to give it your all when you’re attending a World Championship Qualifier and have a shot at making it to Worlds!
