Top 16: Andrea Zenari (Italia) vs Peter Heider (Deutschland)

Welcome to the top 16 of YCS Brussels! In this round we have Italy against Germany! Andrea Zenari will take on Peter Heider – one of these two Duelists will continue on to the top eight while the other will be so close but yet so far.

Zenari started us off with with [pog] netting him two cards. He [ns]ed [toonelf] and set two cards to the backrow before passing.

Heider looked at his hand and exhaled heavily before setting four [st]s and passing.

Zenari Summoned [bull blader] and entered his Battle Phase. Blade attacked for 1600 and the elves followed – running into [moaa]. The Italian passed after setting a third card in the back.

Heider decided his best move was just to set a monster.

It was revealed to be [cyber jar]! When it was attacked it gave Zenari a [tardy], [geaf] and [gww] in attack while Heider got [mof], [exarion] and [dandy] all in face-down defence.

I know I've said it before but CYBER JAR!!! CYBER JAR!!! CYBER JAR!!

Faith and Exarion bit the dust and Heider [ss]ed [inter]. Goblins declared an attack on the kinda-purply-thorny-ish Dragon. In the Damage Step [spikeshield] made sure it came out the victor. Zenari set [st]s until he had four, and play was back with the German. He took [toonelf] in the End Phase.

[pog] was first – “too late for the Magician but still good” he commented. He entered his Battle Phase and declared an attack with the elves, sending them hurtling at [gww]. Zenari thought about his options before deciding not to respond to the attack. In the Damage Step Heider flipped [metalmorph] to boost it to 3200 attack for the battle. It discarded [agg] from Zenari’s hand and [inter] went to attack Tardy Orc. In the Damage Step the Italian flipped [mwall] to make sure the Orc stayed on the field and the Dragon met an untimely end.

Heider set until he had three sets and the Metalmorph. Zenari drew for his turn and flipped [apophis]. He tributed both of his monsters for [ulttyr] and used [riryoku] to boost it! It was sent into battle on the elves and Heider had [power frame]! It didn’t stop Tyranno from taking out the set Dandylion and it’s tokens. It then was ruled that it needed to attack the elves again. It met [mow] and was slain by the Spellcasting elves, which stripped another card from Zenari’s hand – [pho thrasher].

[fsanc] was next for heider. He tributed both tokens for [pms] and both of his monsters went to defence thanks to [0 grav] in the damage step. In the End Phase Heider took 1000 damage.

Zenari flipped [reborn] on his [ulttyr]! He Summoned [pbw] and attacked all monsters on the German side of the field and then directly. It was all over on the next turn as Heider had nothing to come back with!

Heider started us off in the second with three to the backrow and [alexandrite].

Zenari [ss]ed [pho thrasher] and attacked, getting hit by [mow] and losing his Thrasher. In [mp2] he [ns]ed [geaf] and set two [st]s. Heider Summoned [uer] and passed.

The Italian drew and was looking at a hand of [cguard], [bull blader] and [coth]. He chose to [ns] the Card Guard and then used his Goblins to attack the Alexandrite Dragon. [power frame] put a stop to that – however meant the Goblins would stay in attack. Card Guard attacked over [uer] and Zenari set his Call before passing.

[zombyra] was Heider’s response. It declared an attack on Card Guard and was met in the Damage Step by [mwall]! Heider passed.

Mirror Wall was too expensive for Zenari to want to keep so he sent it to the graveyard. He [ns]ed [bull blader] and sent it flying at the Dragon with it’s effect. [bts] made it lose out in that exchange. [geaf] crashed with the Dragon and Card Guard attacked directly.

Heider prayed for [pog] from the top but didn’t get it. He set a monster.

Zenari Summoned [gww] and moved Card Guard’s counter to it. It attacked [dandy] and then a token bit the dust.

After praying for Pot again Heider failed to hit it and set another monster – revealed to be [tann] which spawned more tokens. Zenari set a monster before passing.

Heider Summoned [kycoo] and passed. The Italian flipped his own [tann]. Tokens bit the dust and [gww] went after Kycoo. [rush] helped win the batter and the counter was removed from the Warwolf.

In [mp2] Zenari Summoned [toonelf].

Heider set a backrow and switched Kycoo to defence. Time was called the turn before so this would be the first of three extra turns.

Zenari drew and sent [tann] to attack Kycoo. It was the worst thing he could do as [spikeshield] had him take lots of damage. Bull Blader did the job though and removed Kycoo from the equation – leaving the path to victory free!

[h2]Zenari will be moving on to the top eight![/h2]
