Top 32: Luigi Alici (Inzektors) vs. Bernardo Guerreiro (Dino Rabbit)

[p]
We’ve made it to the final 32 and facing each other now are Luigi Alici from Italy and Bernardo Guerreiro from Portugal. You might remember Alici as we featured him before in the first European YCS, the YCS Bochum where he was up against Claudio Kirchmair in our Round 1 Feature Match. Today, he’s packing an Inzektor build featuring interesting cards like [zephy] don’t see everyday and it has to stand its ground against Guerreiro’s Dino Rabbits!

Alici won the die roll and opted to go first.

[i fly] came down and Alici opted not to use priority. Guerreiro still had no response. Alici flipped [coth], targeting [arma]. It was [ss]ed to the field and Alici used its effect to send [i hornet] to his Graveyard. [i fly] activated its effect and Guerreiro chained [dolkka]'[s] effect to negate it. Alici found [fiendish] in his back row, chaining its effect! Guerreiro had to give this some thought and he eventually chained [chalice]! The chain resolved with [i fly] now sporting 1400 ATK, but not effect.[br]
Alici wouldn’t have it stay on the field as such an easy target. He brought back [zephy], returning [i fly] to his hand. He then used [zephy] and [arma] to Xyz Summon [utopia]. He send it into [dolkka] and Guerreiro lost his monster. Alici advanced to [mp] 2, Xyz Summoning [c39] before ending his impressive turn!
[/p][p]
[ground] was all Guerreiro needed to get rid of [c39]. He followed it up with [reaper], he attacked directly and Alici lost [duality] to its effect.
[/p][p]
Play was back to the Italian Duelist, who checked his Graveyard briefly before [ns]ing [i fly]. He used its effect and Guerreiro chained [tt] with the intention to destroy both monsters on the field. Alici wasn’t happy with that, so he chained [sj] to negate the Trap Card! [i hornet] was returned to the field], it left it again for its own effect so [reaper] would be destroyed. This got Alici [i pede], he used its effect to also equip it with [i hornet] and some attacks followed. Guerreiro was left with 4700 Life Points.[br]
During [mp] 2, Alici used [i hornet]'[s] effect to destroy his own [call], searching his Deck for another [i fly]. He then Xyz Summoned [17], used its effect to detach [i pede] and that concluded the turn.

That’s certainly no ordinary Inzektor Deck that Luigi Alici has brought to the table today. Lots and lots of tech cards also found a way to sneak into his interesting build, providing him with outs where other Decks couldn’t perform any noteworthy actions. Let’s see if he would be able to surprise us again in the second game!

[/p][p]
Back to Alici, who [fs]ed another [ryko]. Guerreiro beasted it with [fiendish], saving another face-down card from destruction. Alici chained [bom]! One of the best answers he could possibly have! Guerreiro was certainly not happy about it, but there was nothing he could do about it. He lost [bth] and [fiendish] (in a way, it was still on the field). With that, Alici passed the turn.
[/p][p]
Guerreiro performed an Xyz Summon into [leviair]. He activated the effect, trying to bring back [saurus]. [fiendish] was supposed to foil that plan, but this time it was Guerreiro who had [bom]! Could Allure provide Alici with the cards he needed?

[nbsp][p]
[allure] provided Alici with 2 new cards. He banished [i pede] and activated [hole]. [sj] negated it! With [dolkka] still on the field, Guerreiro felt confident about this play. Alici considered his next move and he considered playing his last remaining cards: [i fly] and [i mantis]. He thought long and hard about it and eventually [ns]ed [i fly]. He equipped it with [i mantis], but [dolkka] negated its effect. [i fly]'[s] effect got also negated, this time with [veiler], though! That left Alici with only [i fly] on the field. Time was called during this turn.
[/p][p]
Guerreiro [ns]ed [i pede], brought back [kabaz] with [leviair]'[s] effect and attacks followed. After the dust had settled, Alici was left with 500 Life Points.
[/p][p]
Alici drew…
[/p][p]
[i fly]!!![br]
He brought back [i mantis] and attacked with his equipped [i fly] over [kabaz]. That concluded the turn.
[/p][p]
Guerreiro drew, set a monster and switched all of his monsters to [def].
[/p][p]
Back to Alici, who had to consider his next play carefully. Both players checked their respective opponent’s Graveyards and Alici thought about bringing out [exa beetle]. He activated the effect of [i fly], bringing back another copy. [i pede] was [ns]ed, equipping itself with another [i pede] from his Graveyard. Both of his equipped Inzectors were then used to Xyz Summon [exa beetle]! He opted to bring out [exa beetle] in [def], he equipped it with [i mantis] and he then activated [exa beetle]'[s] effect to destroy his own [i mantis] and the [i pede] on Guerreiro’s side of the field. He returned the very same [i pede] to the effect of [i mantis], equipped it with [i mantis] and then attacked over the set [kabaz]. That concluded the turn.

Guerreiro set a monster and passed.
[/p][p]
Alici used the effect of [exa beetle], destroying his own [i mantis] once again. He also got rid of [dolkka] on Guerreiro’s side of the field. He brought back [i fly], used the effect of [i pede] to search his Deck for [i hornet] and that’s when Guerreiro realized that he couldn’t win the game.
[/p][nbsp]

Luigi Alici advances to the Top 16!

[nbsp][p]
Quite the match! Guerreiro made a crucial mistake, not attacking [exa beetle] in his last turn. This would have made all the difference as Alici would then not have been able to destroy [i mantis] once again to start another combo loop.
