17.04.2011 | 13:18
We picked a great match for the top 32: Vincent Ralambomiadana, a French Duelist who won an American YCS with his version of the “French Twilight” is facing Merlin Schumacher, the Duelist we featured in round 2 of this weekend’s tournament and who obviously made it all the way to the tops.
Both players enrolled in friendly chatter prior to the start of the round. Ralambomiadana rolled a 6, which was already impressive on its own, but even more so, considering Schumacher only rolled a 1. Naturally, he opted to go first.
Ralambomiadana’s opening move was a Reinforcement of the Army, bringing him Kagemusha of the Six Samurai from his Deck. He added the little Tuner to his hand, used Upstart Goblin to draw a new card, raising Schumacher’s Life Points by 1000 points, Legendary Six Samurai - Kageki came down and Kagemusha of the Six Samurai followed. Both were Tuned to Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En, Ralambomiadana Set 3 Spells or Traps and he was done with his first turn.
Grandmaster of the Six Samurai came down and Legendary Six Samurai - Kizan followed. Grandmaster of the Six Samurai stomped over Dragunity Aklys and both Legendary Six Samurai - Kizan as well as Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En attacked directly.
Back to Schumacher, who Normal Summoned Dragunity Legionnaire. Ralambomiadana had a Solemn Warning to deal with the threat! Schumacher flipped Seven Tools of the Bandit, negating his opponent’s Counter Trap Card and making sure Dragunity Legionnaire would hit the field! Dragunity Legionnaire then equipped itself with Dragunity Aklys. The effect of Dragunity Legionnaire was used and Dragunity Aklys was sent to the Graveyard. Schumacher targeted Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En and Ralambomiadana opted to destroy Legendary Six Samurai - Kizan instead. Dragunity Aklys triggered and this time Grandmaster of the Six Samurai left the field. Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En was still there.
Ralambomiadana sent Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En in Dragunity Legionnaire. The attack resolved and Schumacher lost his only monster. Ralambomiadana checked the effect of Dragunity Aklys again, he Set a monster and passed.
“Sometimes, Yu-Gi-Oh! is SUCH A COOL GAME!”, Schumacher explained, when he Normal Summoned the Dragunity Legionnaire he drew from the top of his Deck! It wasn’t meant to be, however, as Ralambomiadana revealed his last Set Spell or Trap Card: Book of Moon!
In his following turn, Ralambomiadana also drew a pretty strong card: Grandmaster of the Six Samurai. Schumacher chuckled and went for his Side Deck.
Vincent Ralambomiadana’s Six Samurais overcome Schumacher’s Dragunities in the first Duel!
“The Six Samurai are pretty strong, it’s always a very close call”, Schumacher remarked. Both players were rather quick when it came to Side Decking and after only little interruption, we proceded with the second game.
This time it was Schumacher who had the advantage of going first.
He activated Dragon Ravine, discarding Dragunity Phalanx for the effect of the Field Spell Card to search his Deck for Dragunity Dux. He Normal Summoned Dragunity Dux, brought back Dragunity Phalanx, used the effect of Dragunity Phalanx to unequip it, Tuned both of his monster to Dragunity Knight - Vajrayana, then brought back Dragunity Phalanx once more and after using its effect once more and Tuning both monsters together, he had Stardust Dragon on the field. He Set 2 Spells or Traps and was done with his impressive first turn.
Ralambomiadana also had a good opening: Shien's Smoke Signal allowed him to search his Deck for Kagemusha of the Six Samurai. He followed it up with Gateway of the Six, then Six Samurai United and down came Kagemusha of the Six Samurai! Schumacher flipped Solemn Warning! Ralambomiadana had one more Set Spell or Trap Card and he was finished with his turn.
Both Decks did exactly what they were supposed to be, but Schumacher’s Solemn Warning gave him the upper hand for the time being. Now it was important to not lose the advantage! He discarded Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode for Dragunity Dux. He Normal Summoned it once more, did the combo with Dragunity Phalanx and after some more comboing, we welcomed Scrap Dragon to the field. Dragon Ravine was destroyed by its effect to destroy Gateway of the Six. Then both Synchro Monsters attacked directly successfully and Schumacher passed.
With Gateway of the Six out of the equasion and only 3 cards left in his hand to fight the overwhelming power of both of Schumacher’s Synchro Monsters, Ralambomiadana had to come up with something. He used Dust Tornado, targeting the face-down Spell or Trap Card on Schumacher’s side of the field. Stardust Dragon negated the effect. Hand of the Six Samurai was Normal Summoned next. Grandmaster of the Six Samurai followed. That meant 2 Counters on Six Samurai United and Ralambomiadana Tributed it to draw 2 new cards. Hand of the Six Samurai left the field to destroy Scrap Dragon and next in line was Legendary Six Samurai - Kizan. Both monsters attacked directly and Ralambomiadana was done. Almost done, to be more precise, as he had D.D. Crow in the End Phase for Stardust Dragon!!! What a comeback!
Terraforming for Dragon Ravine. He Summoned Dragunity Dux, back came Dragunity Phalanx, Dragunity Knight - Vajrayana was next, then Dragunity Phalanx came back and just a second later, Thought Ruler Archfiend was on the field. It attacked over Grandmaster of the Six Samurai and Schumacher passed.
This Duel went back and forth! Both Duelists had flipped the table once at this point, but it was up to Ralambomiadana again. He brought out Legendary Six Samurai - Kageki. He used the effect so Special Summon Kagemusha of the Six Samurai. He Tuned all of his monsters to Mist Wurm! Thought Ruler Archfiend and Schumacher’s face-down Spell or Trap Card were removed to his hand / Extra Deck.
He showed Dark Hole and a monster and this time it was Ralambomiadana who went for his Side Deck!
Merlin Schumacher comes back to win the second Duel!
Ralambomiadana started the final Duel and he did so with Shien's Smoke Signal, fetching Kagemusha of the Six Samurai from his Deck. He Summoned Legendary Six Samurai - Kageki to the field, but Schumacher was quick to discard Effect Veiler so he couldn’t bring out any more monsters! 3 Spells or Traps went face-down and Ralambomiadana passed.
Giant Trunade was next, but Ralambomiadana wanted to make sure he could Summon Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En to the field next turn, so he activated Solemn Judgment! Schumacher Normal Summoned Dragunity Aklys, but Solemn Warning destroyed that card, too. Only 2000 Life Points left for Ralambomiadana. Schumacher Set 2 Spells or Traps and he passed.
This time it was Ralambomiadana who had the Giant Trunade! He brought out Kagemusha of the Six Samurai, then Grandmaster of the Six Samurai, he Tuned the lower Level monsters to Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En and attacks followed. Back to Schumacher, who was suddenly also running out of Life Points!
He Set a card to each zone and passed.
Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En was sent into Dragunity Dux, destroying the face-down monster in battle. Grandmaster of the Six Samurai attacked directly. Schumacher had no response. Ralambomiadana flipped Double-Edged Sword Technique!!! Schumacher extended his hand!
Vincent Ralambomiadana advances to the Top 16!
Wow! Vincent Ralambomiadana committed 6000 of his Life Points on Schumacher’s very first turn, but it all paid out in the end. He had no more cards left, but Solemn Judgment, Solemn Warning and Double-Edged Sword Technique, combined with Legendary Six Samurai - Shi En and Grandmaster of the Six Samurai were all he needed to push through with his monsters and seal the deal!
