Top 8 Feature Match: Michael Ciplak vs. Niels Vossen
It couldn’t get much more international! During the knock out portion of this YCS, we already featured Italian, Portuguese and Greek players. Next in line were the last Austrian player of the day, Michael Ciplak, facing Niels Vossen, the only Belgian player left in the field (on top of that we had another 2 French players, 1 German, 1 Italian, 1 Greek and 1 English player as well)!
Vossen rolled a 5, which was enough to match Ciplak’s 3. As expected, he wanted to start the first Duel of this match! Ciplak was playing Gladiator Beasts while Vossen relied on Blackwings.
Vossen Summoned [shura], Set 3 spells or traps and was done with his first turn.
Ciplak was on, he Set a monster, followed it up with 2 Spell or Trap Cards and passed. [delta crow] was activated during the End Phase and it destroyed [prison] and [chariot]!!!
Vossen Special Summoned [gale], he Tuned both his monsters to [armor master] and attacked into [hoplomus]. He passed.
[darius] was Summoned on Ciplak’s side of the field. He Special Summoned [test tiger], but [ro] was flipped and foiled that plan as well. Vossen seemed to have all the answers!
On the following turn, he briefly checked his options before attacking with [armor master] over [darius]. He Set a third Spell or Trap Card and passed.
Ciplak Set a monster and ended his turn.

[armor master] attacked directly and the attack went through.
Three cards in Ciplak’s hand and he had to come up with something to turn this Duel around. He activated [reborn], targeting [gale]. The effect of [ro] was Chained to negate the effect. [trap stun] was Chained, too, so [gale] was Special Summoned. [gale]'[s] effect was used on [armor master], [laquari] was Summoned next and play proceeded with the Battle Phase. [laquari] attacked into [armor master] and the Gladitor Beast tagged out. [bestiari] was Special Summoned and its effect destroyed [ro]. Ciplak Set his last card, a spell or trap, and he ended his turn.
Vossen used [icarus] to get rid of both [bestiari] and the Set [bom]. [sirocco] was Summoned next, he Set a spell or trap and ended.
Ciplak drew for his turn and shuffled up his cards.
Niels Vossen wins the first Duel!
“Not quite my favorite match-up”, Ciplak remarked. Vossen claimed, it was the first Gladiator Beast Deck he had to face the whole weekend. Not too bad for him as his Deck obviously packed all the answers! Both players wasted no time during side decking; Ciplak wanted to go first in the second Duel and the game was on once more!

He Special Summoned [test tiger], used its effect to bring out [bestiari], destroyed the Set [trap hole] and then Special Summoned [gyzarus], clearing Vossen’s field completely! He Set a spell or trap and was done with his amazing turn!
