Top Tech Picks for YCS Berlin

The atmosphere at YCS Berlin is great as over 1000 players prepare to compete for the title. I’ve been walking around and asking people what they’re using this weekend to combat the top Decks and as a result have found some interesting tech picks. Keep an eye out for some of these cards over the next two days!

Skill Prisoner

[prisoner] can draw some defensive comparisons to the previously popular [bts]. It allows you to protect your monsters from cards such as [veiler], [101] and [ff bear] not just once, but twice. This can be really useful for Decks that rely on keeping their boss monsters on the field so watch out for it in Decks such as Prophecy.

Full House

[full house] is a completely anti-Fire Fist cards that takes advantage of the fact they rely on not just set backrow but also face-up cards such as [ff tenki] and [ff tensu]. Good in the mirror match as it allows you to target your own cards as well so can be a huge removal tool.

Malevolent Catastrophe

Similarly to [full house], this card really hates on any Deck that relies heavily on backrow. This is not limited to a set number of face-up/face-down cards and instead is triggered by an attack. This can devastate an opponent’s stability especially if they have an attack-boosting Trap card and are attacking your bigger monster. Watch out for many bad beat stories of [malevolent] this weekend.

Ghostrick Jackfrost

One of the surprise cards floating around is [gt jack]. It’s an alternative to [scarecrow] and gives you a monster on the field as well as eliminating the opposing threat. There are ways to Synchro him off after he hits the field as well as providing an extra body to trigger [needle]. Some would say having the effect of [book] and [fader] in one card is too good to pass up!

Traptrix Myrmeleo

The big tech card of the weekend is [myrmeleo], splashed by Decks playing [bth] and [trap hole]. Trap recruiters have always been popular as they allow you to set your field up in a way that the opponent knows there are limited options in terms of combating the situation. With stats not to be laughed at and a level that opens up many [xyz] possibilities expect to see this guy popping up all over the tournament.
