WCQ: European Championship 2011: The Decks & Duelists

17.07.2011 | 10:21 |

It’s time for some stat-munching! Here’s the overall Deck and Duelist breakdown of the WCQ: European Championship 2011. With this being the largest European Championship ever held there’s plenty of information to look at, and we’ve broken it all down for you below, check it out.

As you can see, Tengu Plants and Doppel Junk are the most popular Decks here this weekend, taking up a total of 31.3% of the field. The reason these 2 Decks are grouped together is because there are so many minor difference between both Decks. For example, you could run 3 Reborn Tengu, 3 Junk Synchron and 3 Doppelwarrior, or you could be playing a Deck that uses 1 Doppelwarrior, 2 Junk Synchron and 2 Debris Dragon. The only thing most of these Decks have in common (other than standard cards like Dark Hole etc.) is that they all use Dandylion, Spore, Glow-Up Bulb, and Lonefire Blossom as well. The only major difference we’ve found between all the various Tengu/Plant/Junk variants is that many use Chaos Sorcerer while many more do not, which is why Chaos Plants are in a seperate category. Also, any Deck that is being used by less than 10 Duelists is in the “Other” category, and there’s everything from Disaster Dragon to Psychics in here!

The Duelist breakdown is also quite interesting. The top 5 spots are taken by the 5 major European hotspots for the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG (cards are printed in each language), but it’s a surprise that there’s so many Italian Duelists here, 15.8% to be exact. The main reason for this is that it’s so easy to fly from Milan (where the majority of Italian Duelists live near) to Madrid. There’s plenty of Spanish and Portugese Duelists here also as expected, and the high amount of UK players are combining the tournament weekend with a sunny Spanish holiday. We’ve even got 3 Duelists from South Africa here! The reason for this is that there’s no WCQ: African Championship (as South Africa is the only country to have a National Championship, so they earn invites for Europe instead) but it’s great to see those 3 Duelists make the longest trip of anybody this weekend to experience Dueling in another continent.

That’s all the information available for now, but we’ll be back later for the breakdowns of the playoffs!
