Welcome to Day 1 of the 2016 WCQ: European Championship!

Hello and welcome to Berlin! It’s THE time of the year where high-class Duelists come together to duke it out. After YCS Berlin 2014 and a World Championship in 2008 the city of Berlin is hosting its first WCQ: European Championship. The biggest and most prestigious event of the year is taking place at the Estrel Congress Center in Berlin. It’s the clash of the champions fighting for the title and one of four spots at this year’s World Championship.

In order to compete at this high scale event, players needed to qualify in World Championship Qualifier tournaments, that were held throughout the year. A lot of the National Champions are here in Berlin taking a shot at the title. The top four Duelists will then be invited to this year’s World Championships in Orlando, Florida. The North American competitors were already determined last weekend at NAWCQ. There they will face Duelists from the rest of the globe to determine the true champion for 2016.

We have a total of 1.413 players registered for the Main Event. We are going to play 8 Rounds of Swiss today and another 3 tomorrow. After that we will cut to Top 64 and play another 6 knock-out Rounds until we have a new European Champion.
