24.06.2017 | 10:12 |

This is it! This is what we have been waiting for all season long! The culmination of “National Season”: The WCQ: European Championship 2017 in Utrecht! In order to take part in this prestigious event Duelists needed to earn an invite via Regionals or Nationals. Some had to rely on the Last Chance Qualifiers to earn their spot. Only the best of the best will be able to make it to the top!

2016 we stopped in Berlin to find Samir Bachar from France as the new European Champion. As the current reigning champion he’s also the one to the recieve the first Feature Match of this event. In case you missed the coverage of WCQ Berlin here is a Link to the coverage overview.

Duelists are in it for a seat in the World Championship 2017. This year we have a new Qualification System for Worlds. As opposed to last year where the top 4 players went to Worlds this time only the best 2 players will earn their invite. In addition to that the highest ranked players of Germany, France, Italy and the UK will also get a fixed invite to Worlds. Two players are already so far ahead in points that they have their invite for sure. These Duelists are none other than Joshua Schmidt from Germany and Marcello Barberi from Italy. In France and the UK it is still very close and it depends on the results here in Utrecht.
We have a total of 1.304 players registered for the Main Event. We are going to play 8 Rounds of Swiss today and another 3 tomorrow. After that we will cut to Top 64 and play another 6 knock-out Rounds until we have a new European Champion. Most of the National Champions are in competition today! During the course of our coverage we will put a spotlight on them.

Feature Matches will be on our live stream on Twitch and YouTube. On written coverage we will be focusing on Quick Questions, Deck Profiles and Profiles of the National Champions. Of course this content will be accompanied by Strategy Content like Tech Updates in order to provide you at home with all the ideas and innovation players came up with. Stay tuned for more over the course of the weekend, and welcome to the 2017 WCQ: European Championship!
