Welcome to Day 2 of the 2017 WCQ: European Championship
Good morning and welcome back to Day 2 of WCQ: European Championship 2017. We are still in Berlin and players are getting ready to start Round 9. Yesterday more than 1.300 players entered the Main Event with a wide variety of Decks and strategies. The field has narrowed down to a 256 Duelists still in competition.
We are going to play 3 more Rounds of Swiss until we make the cut to Top 64. These Duelists will continue with the Knock-Out Rounds. Henceforth a loss results in elimination from the tournament. Every little mistake might be crucial. We are giving out 2 invites to the World Championships today and only these 64 players will all have a shot.
The best 256 players are back to claim the the title from Samir Bachar and earn an invite to Worlds. Yesterday the event felt very calm and relaxed. I guess that tenstion will be a lot higher today, especially among these players who are on the bubble. At the end of the day Europe will crown a new champion and Team Europe will be announced.
Deck-wise the field was led by the big two decks. Zoodics, True Draco and all kinds of crazy hybrids are leading the field. These two decks nearly made up to 50% of the field. We also saw a few players trying a rogue strategy, experimenting with Lightsworn, Zefra and Wizards. None of them were able to keep up with the power of Zoo. At our Deck & Country breakdown we will be thouroughly analyzing how the metagame shifted in Day 2. Stay tuned to find out who will prevail.Back to all news
