Welcome to YCS Madrid!

Spain is hot.

No really, Spain is super hot. The air conditioning inside the Pabellon de Convenciones is on full blast and the first person to say it’s too cold will be sent outside to think about what they’ve done. The action at the top tables is sure to be just as scorching this weekend.

The last time we were in Madrid was for the WCQ: European Championship 2011 and three years later Duelists from all over the continent find themselves here again to try and take the YCS Madrid title.

With the glory comes the riches of course: A trophy, netbook, paid travel and accommodation to WCQ: European Championship 2015 and perhaps most importantly: an Ultra Rare copy of the brand new prize card, [ascension]!

This is the first YCS since the release of the new set, [duea], which has seen the rise of three completely new Decks as well as strengthening many long-forgotten ones. Shaddoll, Burning Abyss and Tellarknights will all be out in force today – as will Geargia which has made a huge impact in the months before DUEA was released.

Batterymen is a Deck that some of you may have never heard of. It’s a Deck based around setting up a combo to take out the opponent in a single turn; and with the release of [batt 9v] is surging in popularity again.

I’m sure you’ll all agree that the Premier Events over the last few months have provided some of the most diverse fields we’ve seen in a long time and makes for some excellent match-ups and a huge amount of skill required to pilot a Deck all the way to the final tables.

This weekend we will be bringing you all of the action not just through the written coverage but also through the {stream} which will be running on both days with Matthew Bell and my usual partner-in-crime Oliver Gehrmann bringing you commentary and analysis from Feature Matches.

On the written side there will of course be Feature Matches but with a greater-than-usual supplement of Deck Profiles, Player Interviews and Strategy Updates as things develop through the tournament.

Whether you’re reading along live at home unable to make the event or reading posthumously to see what did well – sit back, relax and enjoy the all-around coverage we are bringing you this weekend.
