What do the Duelists predict?

20.11.2010 | 11:20 |

It’s been 2 months since YCS Bochum and the Dueling environment has changed quite a bit. [STBL] is making its competitive debut in a major European event this weekend and key cards like [fsynch] and [glowup] will certainly see a lot of Feature Match action today. On top of this Duelists have had 2 months to get used to handling X-Sabers and LIGHT Gemini Beatdown so the Top 32 Deck spread should differ quite a bit from the one we saw in Germany. Every Duelist present today has an opinion on what we’ll see today so here’s a small sample of what everybody’s looking out for!

Expect to see a lot of Dandylions in Milan!

[b][u]Quickdraw and Plant Synchro Decks are on top of the prediction list![/b][/u]

Looking at the chart above, it’s plain to see what Decks everybody’s expecting to come across here in Milan. Quickdraw has been a tournament contender ever since YCS Bochum back in May, with powerful combos built around [drill] and unique access to [nitro] and [junkd]. Plant Synchro is an evolution of this Deck, dropping [qd] entirely and putting more focus on the [debris]/[dandy] combo that made the Deck so popular in the first place. Plant Synchro Decks also got a huge boost from [STBL] which we’ll discuss in a moment. Both Decks can bring out Synchros at a rapid pace and have the ability to reset the field whenever they feel like it, so it’s no surprise to see them as the top choices. Duelists are also expecting to see plenty of the other top contenders as well. Blackwings, Scraps and X-Sabers all did extremely well in Bochum, taking up several spots in the Top 32 but the surprise Deck of YCS Milan could turn out to be Formula Monarchs. As the name implies, the Deck makes use of [fsynch] along with long-time favourites like [caius] and [raiza]. [fsynch] is incredibly easy to Summon in a Frog Monarch Deck, as both [treeborn] and [fishborg] can be Summoned at any time.

X-Sabers have won 3 YCS events so far in this format, will Milan be number 4?

[b][u]More Fluff Tokens for Fulhelmknight to eat up![/b][/u]

Despite the overwhelming popularity of Quickdraw and Plant Synchro, many Duelists are expecting X-Sabers to take home another YCS title. The key reason for this is that [fulhelm] is the best card to use against any Deck that Summons a lot of [fluff][s]. When [fulhelm] takes down a monster that’s in Defence Position, another X-Saber monster is immediately Special Summoned from the Graveyard, ready to attack. Bring out another [fulhelm], take down another [fluff] and you can do it again! That’s not to say that the Saber Duelist has it all his own way however. Debris Dragon variants are capable of making explosive plays as well. Let’s not count out the other contenders either, Blackwings and Scraps are ready to pounce should any of the fan favourites begin to falter, and with both getting new support in [STBL], expect some updated strategies and renewed interest in these Decks from the game’s top players.

Starstrike Blast and Duelist Revolution are proving very popular indeed!

[b][u]The little racing car that could![/u][/b]

When asked about what players think will be the most popular card of YCS Milan, I got several different predictions, but one card stood above the rest. [fsynch] is a new Level 2 Synchro monster from [STBL] and also the very first Synchro Tuner monster. It’s extremely easy to Summon in Plant Synchro and Formula Monarch Decks and provides an instant payoff by letting you draw a card when you Summon it. Add to that the one-of-a-kind ability to Synchro Summon during your opponent’s turn and you’ve got a card with a huge amount of potential. Other than [fsynch] Duelists are expecting to see [warning] a lot, as it is a very popular Trap Card right now, [glowup]'[s] gaining popularity as a solid Tuner and the easiest way to Summon [fsynch] in Plant Decks, and [debris]'[s] inclusion is no surprise considering the popularity of Quickdraw and Plant Synchro, 2 Decks that take the [debris]/[dandy] combo and add their own touches after that.

How many of these Duelists made the right call? Will Sabers win again? Just how many [fsynch][s] will we see in the Top 16 Decklists? We’ll begin to answer those questions in a few moments as YCS Milan gets underway!
