YCS Düsseldorf 1 2019: Venue Lookaround & Goodbye
23.02.2019 | 23:13
Day 1 of YCS Düsseldorf 1 & 2 is in the books. YCS Düsseldorf 1 hosted 9 Rounds of Swiss and we will return tomorrow morning onyl to play more Rounds before we cut to Top 64. YCS Düsseldorf 2 will also play 3 more Rounds of Swiss and they will make the cut at Top 16. So we will have two Top 8 and two new YCS winners! Before we leave and get some rest, please take a look at the best impressions of Saturday.
Wow, what a Day 1! What started as a nightmare turned into a huge success for Yu-Gi-Oh!. The interest in this event surpassed all our expectations and we had to come up with a solution quickly. Due to security reasons we had to cap the number of participants in YCS Düsseldorf to roughly 2.400 Duelists. But the remaining line was huge! It went all the way from the Main Event Stage to the entrance. In the end it turned out that there were almost 500 people waiting to enter the event.
We didn’t want to send anybody home without the chance to participate in a YCS. So, we set up another event at a different location. At this point, we want to thank Hilton Düsseldorf for their flexibility to offer their Rheinland-Saal. In merely 2 hours we prepared a second location from scratch and set up a second YCS. We’ve never done this before, so it was a completely unknow situation for us as well.
Fortunately, we had players volunteer to help out as judges to run the second YCS Düsseldorf. We were happy to offer this opportunity and, from that I’ve heard talking to players on site, you guys appreciated our effort.
Metgame-wise Salamangreat had the impact on the event that most of you expected. It is not only the most represented Deck in both events, it was also the most successful after Day 1. Thunder Dragon did well again and Orcust seems to be a sleeper pick for this event. The Deck flew under the radar, but we had a lot of Duelists on the Top Tables relying on the Deck.
We will return tomorrow with our coverage of YCS Düsseldorf 1 and 2. Have a good night and hopefully, you all will return tomorrow to enjoy the rest of our coverage of YCS Düsseldorf.
