YCS First Timers

Attending abig event like the Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series is always a rewarding experience, but do you still remember your first time? For these Duelists, it’s the very first time and let’s hear what they got to say about it.

Italian YCS First Timers
Standing: Giovanni Tavola, Mattia Muggeri and Daniele Motta.
Sitting: Federico Vago, Vittorio Torres, Marco Bonfanti and Daniele Muggeri

As you might have already guessed, judging by the names, all of these young players are from Italy. They didn’t have to travel far and wide as they live in Milan! Daniele Motta’s mother and a friend drove them here, so they could sleep long and feel up to the task.

Asked about what they’re thinking about the YCS, they told me that they think it will be very challenging, but they feel confident and see what happens. They’re running 2 X-Saber decks, 1 Infernity, 3 Gladiator Beasts and 1 Synchro Monarch. That’s quite a diverse playgroup and might help those aspiring players to make a name for themselves at their first chance ever.

Say hello to the Patel family from London, England! Marcus (left) and Rohan (right) flew over together with their father Kish as they thought it “would be nice to come.” Both of the boys were very much looking forward to the event as they only flew once before and are too young to remember. It’s a direct flight from London and they arrived here yesterday already, so they had quite a lovely trip.

Fortunately, their hotel offered a coach service which brought them here, so it was easy enough.

While Marcus is playing Blackwings, Rohan relies on the Lightsworn to make a lasting impressoin today. Kish will look over the boys and maybe trade some cards. He already did so prior to the beginning of the tournament and told me that he enjoyed it a lot – all of the Duelists were very friendly, so he could easily get some cards he was looking for. Marcus wants to make day 2 and Rohan is looking forward to the Dragon Duel where he wants to make top 8 tomorrow! Let’s see how it goes for them!

Here we got Simon Pradhan, Roland Volderauer, Fabio Birnegger and Deniz Mailänder. All of them are from Innsbruck, Austria. Deniz’ parents drove them here and it took them 5 hours. They arrived yesterday already and made use of the pre registration – a service they really appreciated as it will save them some time today.

Asked about their expectations for the event, they told me: “We are all very excited! We all want to make tops, just like the other players from our city. There are 7 Duelists from Innsbruck here, so 7 of the spots in the knock out portion of the tournament might already be taken.

They are running Absolute Zero Gladiators (Fabio), Blackwings (Deniz), X-Sabers (Roland) and Quickdraw (Simon). Fortunately, they could playtest together, so they should be prepared for a diverse field. If things aren’t going as planned, Deniz and Fabio can still participate in the Dragon Duel.
