YCS Paris 2014: Top 32 Breakdown

We’ve finally cut down from 256 players to 32 players after 3 rounds of swiss. The numbers have whittled down and now we can look at what is still left from yesterday’s Decks. The results are still pretty diverse but there are some clear winners here…

[header]Geargia and Mermail[/header]
As I predicted in the previous article Mermail and Geargia outlasted by sheer number of players. Two massively powerful Decktypes means that you can expect mirror matches in the 32 cut. I did say that other Decks will be teching against it, and to be in the top 32 means you’ve probably beaten a few Mermail and Geargia in the process. It’s not the be all and end all, it’s very possible that, although we may see either of these in the finals, another Decktype could win out.

[header]Bujin[/header]
I honestly expected to see a few more of these in the top 32! 3 Duelists are still in the running with this Deck and they have a very good chance of trouncing all the others. It has a lot of answers to a lot of situations and we could see Bujin winning its first European YCS!

[header]What about the rest?[/header]
There is one Harpie left out of all. I feel like I’ve jinxed them by singing its praises but it has got a good combo in the right hands. It looks like it just fell short. It still has potential though! I stand by what I said about Fire King, Evilswarm and Spellbook. They’re the old meta, still good, but are shunted by newer Decktypes. Chain Burn is a staple Deck for people who want to stretch out a game. It’s elaborate string of combos confuse opponents. It could win though, with the right player behind it.
