The Top 8 Duelists of YCS Utrecht 2018!
Name: Jonas Koschel Age: 20 Country: Germany, Bochum How do you feel right now? I feel great right now! I just won my Top 16 match and I’m still waiting for my first match loss. I was undefeated during Swiss, but the curse doesn’t scare me anymore. I already broke it by winning my Top 64 game. What Deck are you playing today? Pure Sky Striker – I was usure what to play and some friends of mine convinced me to play. It is the most consistent Deck. Bu stuck with the Deck and it paid off. Any awesome tech cards you want to let the world know about? I’m running 3 Eagle Booster that makes my monsters unaffected. It’s a pretty good tech choice in the mirror match and against altergeist. Final words? Shoutouts to E-Man Games.
Name: Niko Schlierkamp Age: 19 Country: Germany, Karlsruhe How do you feel right now? I’m feeling good, it’s my first Top 8. All the other times I topped I immediately lost my first Top 32 match. Topping was such a relief, because I was struggling for almost 1,5 years. What Deck are you playing today? Pure Sky Striker – it’s the most consistent Deck and there are really no bad match-ups. I feel like I got the mirror match under control, even though it is very skilful. Any awesome tech cards you want to let the world know about? I maindeck Galaxy Cyclone. In the 1st turn it is basically another Mystical Space Typhoon, but later on it takes out Protocol or my own field spell to get access to Raye again. Final words? Shoutous to team E-Man Games and Raid’n’Trade in Karlsruhe.
Name: Errikos Bek Age: 21 Country: Greece, Athens How do you feel right now? I’m really happy, because all my practice paid off in the end. I prepared a lot for this event. What Deck are you playing today? Pure Sky Striker – after the list all the other Decks seemed fragile. I was confident enough for the mirror match, because I already played the Deck before the list. Any awesome tech cards you want to let the world know about? Solemn Strike for the mirror match. It won me my Top 16 match right now. Final words? Shoutouts to ComplexityCardGaming, Rafael Neven, we stayed at his house and my skype call that I tested with.
Name: Bodhan Temnyk Age: 25 Country: Australia, Glenmoripark How do you feel right now? Happy I guess and tired of the long event. I came second at worlds and after losing the finals every other event doesn’t hit me as hard anymore. I came here because I had a free flight left and decided to use it to get to YCS 200. What Deck are you playing today? Altergeist – I’m the only one left in the Top 8. I still think it is the best Deck right now. Any awesome tech cards you want to let the world know about? Shared Ride for Sky Striker and Trickstar. It was really good for a card that isn’t a trap. Final words? Shoutouts to James White and Chris Gehrin. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be where I am right now. And shoutouts to my local OTS Store Gametraders Live Penrith.
Name: Dinh-Kha Bui Age: 22 Country: Germany, Berlin How do you feel right now? It’s my first YCS Top 8. I was happy with reaching Top 64, but Top 8 is even better. If I only have to play Sky Striker from now on, I feel like my chances of winning are good. What Deck are you playing today? Burning Abyss – it’s still my most favorite Deck. It’s fun to play and with Kaijus in the Main Deck it still holds its ground against Sky Striker. Any awesome tech cards you want to let the world know about? I maindeck one copy of all of the seven Kaijus. I feel like they are more effective against Sky Striker than any handtraps. I also maindeck Hydralander, it’s additional mills and I can hit backrows. Final words? Shoutouts to my Team Seventh Sense, to BB Land Berlin, Pascal that I kicked out of the Top cut, Rasmus, Imran, Elias und Nico Severin.
Name: Andreas Vrellos Age: 20 Country: Greece, Athens How do you feel right now? I feel very confident, I play the best Deck and I hope to win my second YCS. What Deck are you playing today? Pure Sky Striker – I built a go second version with a whole bunch of tech cards. Any awesome tech cards you want to let the world know about? I maindeck Monster Reborn for the mirror match, Typhoon for Altergeist and Evenly Matched to punish my opponents. During the whole event I went second 15 times and I lost only one or two of my Game 1s. Final words? Shoutous to all my Greek friends who playtested with me and I hope to win the second YCS. We are 3 Greek players in the top 8 right now so we have good chances of bringing another title to Greece!
Name: Christos Mourikis Age: 30 Country: Greece, Athens How do you feel right now? I had a few Top 8 before, but I haven’t been here for dar too long. I feel quite excited with my Top 8, because I didn’t expect to get here. I was 4:2:1 on the bubble at Day 1 and had to win each game from there on. In the Top 8 everything can happen. What Deck are you playing today? Pure Sky Striker – it is the best in the current format. Any awesome tech cards you want to let the world know about? I maindeck Eagle Booster, mainly for the mirror match. I have 3 Artifact Sanctum and 1 Artifact Scythe in the side for all the combo Decks like Trickstar and Gouki. Final words? Shoutouts to Themis for the list. He built the Deck that we both played. And shoutouts to all my Greek friends and to everyone who believed in me, even if they didn’t.
Name: Sven Rebmann Age: 25 Country: Germany, Heilbronn How do you feel right now? I just came straight from a long and tough match to this interview. I’m very happy to be here! It is my 1st YCS Top 8 and . From now on, everything is possible. What Deck are you playing today? Trickstar Sky Striker – I wanted to run both engines to be less predictable. The Trickstar engine helped me a lot to out a second Anchor. That’s what those matches are all about. Any awesome tech cards you want to let the world know about? I run Imperial Order in the Main Deck. Even though I play 17 spell cards in the Main, the card itself is an instant win condition. Deck Lockdown is another tech card from my Side Deck that basically works like another floodgate. Final words? Shoutouts to all the Yu-Gi-Oh! players from Munich and my local Brooklyn Magic in Fürstenfeld-Bruck.
